May - Hat-trick of Senior Victories
The Heathens victory against Brook Strollers on Sunday May 18th
meant that all three senior teams won at the weekend. The 1st XI maintained
their 100% record with a victory against Puttenham 2nd XI and our own 2nd XI
got their first victory of the season against Badshot Lea 2nd XI. Well done
all round - especially Graham Webb for his bowling of 8 for 44 for the
Heathens.
April - Nets Project
Work started on the new nets project in the
snow. The old nets have been dismantled and the trees have been
cleared to make space for three new nets that will run 90
degrees from the original location.

The intrepid working party will be meeting
on Sunday mornings at 10am to prepare the ground before the
season starts - additional volunteers will always be welcome.
Last week work started on levelling the ground:

September 2007 - 1st XI Champions
With so many cancellations and abandonments it's been a long
time coming, but finally Blackheath 1st XI are champions of
I'Anson League Division 4. Our winning draw against Kingsley
last Saturday (1st September) left our nearest challengers
Bramley ten points behind with only one match to play.
Technically they could still draw level next weekend, but we
would win on "count back".
A deputation from the league will present the trophy at
Blackheath prior to our final game next Saturday 8th September,
at home to Witley. Apparently Nelson Mandela has a prior
engagement, but no doubt the presentation will still be a moment
to savour. Let's hope we can win the game too, and end the
season with a flourish!
One thing's for certain, the regulars from both the 1st and 2nd
XIs are planning an evening out on Saturday to celebrate a good
season for both teams. Details of this are sketchy at the moment
(and likely to get sketchier as the evening progresses), but
we'll start at the club after the game, probably around 6pm.
Everybody's welcome so come along...and bring your best drinking
trousers. Regards, Graham Webb.

August 2007 - Test cricketers who've played at Blackheath
Following
my initial article on this subject a number of you have kindly
contributed further names to the list of Test cricketers who
have played at Blackheath, and it now looks like this...
Aamer Nazir (Pak 93-95), Ali Naqvi (Pak 97-98), Eddie Barlow (SA
61-70), Ken Barrington (Eng 55-68), Martin Bicknell (Eng 93-03),
Paul Downton (Eng 81-88), Ross Edwards (Aus 72-75), Ashley Giles
(Eng 98-06), Adam Hollioake (Eng 97-98), Peter May (Eng 51-61),
Peter Pollock (SA 61-70), Chris Tremlett (Eng 07-??).
In addition, Graham Thorpe (Eng) and Ben Hollioake (Eng) may
have played as youngsters, but I have had no confirmation. Ian
Redpath (Aus) visited us a couple of years ago but didn't play.
You might also like to know that the England Under 19 team
currently playing a Test series against Pakistan includes two
players who have played
for Blackheath, Rory Hamilton-Brown and Stuart
Meaker.
Can you add any more names to the list? Let me know.
