March 29, 2007 - Information from
Gill Rooney
of the I'Anson League:
Click
here for
information from the ECB regarding junior cricketers playing in Adult
cricket. The League will be fully endorsing this Directive.
For the purpose of this Directive a player’s age
group is decided by the age he/she was at midnight on August 31st, 2006.
The only exception to this is the directive about wearing helmets and
that applies until the player has his/her 18th birthday. It is no longer
possible for under 18s to bring a letter from their parents exempting
them from wearing helmets – they must be worn by all batsmen under 18,
wicket keepers who are standing up to the wicket and all young players
acting as runners – even if the actual batsman is not wearing a helmet
because he is a senior players. The helmet must have a face guard and
there are no exceptions to the rule.
There are other changes and it is vital that all Captains and club
umpires have a copy of this as they have the ultimate responsibility on
the field. Your committee should also be made aware of this as there are
things that will affect the club as it has a duty of care towards all
young players in the club.
If you intend to play someone in the under 11 age
group either in a League or Cup match you MUST obtain prior approval
from the League and this would only be considered with players of
exceptional ability.
Best wishes,
Gill |
