Saturday 1st XI v Peper Harow (Home) 07-08-2010

Result: Blackheath won by 2 wickets batting second

Blackheath - T Seebold 43, R Smith 4-45

Peper Harow - L Diack 50

Batsmen on both sides struggled at Blackheath on a pitch made difficult by intermittent rain and overcast skies. Peper Harow, put in to bat, lost 7 wickets for 92 until newcomer Lionel Diack retrieved the situation with some well-judged hitting before he was caught in the outfield by Will Lowe. Best bowler for Blackheath was Richard Smith who bowled three of his four victims, significantly taking the wicket of John Hebditch who attempted to pull a short ball which hit his stumps. Blackheath's young wicket-keeper, Will Baker, held four catches.

The home side started well but once Neil Roberts turned to the slow men, himself and Steve Bradley the innings was strangled. Together they sent down 31 overs for 79 runs and 7 wickets, only one boudary coming in the first 28 of those overs. The experienced Tim Seebold gritted it out for two hours and 33 overs to make top score of 43 but 7 wickets were down for 96 and the odds seemed at that point to favour Peper Harow before the issue was eventually resolved by Richard Smith and Matt Payne who hit off the 30 required for the ninth wicket. Payne finished the match an enormous six and two fours in one over to keep Blackheath's hopes of promotion alive.
