Saturday 1st XI v Wood Street (Home) 24-07-2010

Result: Wood Street won by 2 wickets batting second

Blackheath - M Chase 60, B Lowe 32, G Webb 54-4

Wood Street - P Strudwick 54, J Dobson 41, T Johnson 3-54

Blackheath lost the toss and were asked to bat. The top order failed to fire with the exception of Mike Chase. Chase continued his good form with an impressive 60 runs before picking out Inzy Azeem on the deep square boundary. Chase now has 4 half centuries this season. Mr consistent Paul Nash had a brain freeze at the wicket needlessly running himself out for 3 failing to get back behind the crease with Azeem again doing the business. Adam Hall (8) was unlucky getting caught down the leg side and Tim Seebold (5) was given out trying to hook a short one. Bobby Lowe (32) batted well with Chase whilst Dallas McDermott and Graham Webb took the score to 183 for 9 off their allotted 48 overs. Inzy Azeem was the pick of the Wood Street bowlers taking 2 for 66 off 19 overs. Youngsters Toby Johnson and Riswan Ahmed also bowled well taking 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

Blackheath started well in the field with Clive Ennis continuing his recent good form taking 3 for 25 off 7 overs. One of Ennis' wickets came through a classic diving catch from Chase in the covers just inches off the ground. Josh Dobson impressed with 41 and Richard Buckmaster was doing well before being run out for 27. Phil Strudwick (ex Surrey 2's) batting at 6 was the difference between the two sides. His 54 was an excellent innings at the right time for Wood street and he looked in control until Webb bowled an excellent delivery finding his edge being caught behind by Terry Brockman. Webb then picked up several more wickets and Blackheath had Wood Street 8 down still needing over 20 runs to win. Unfortunately Chase had to leave early and Blackheath only had 10 players for the last hour, which did make a difference. Ahmed and Rob Frith played their shots and saw Wood Street home with 2 overs to spare in a close match.

Congratulations also go to Blackheath Legend Graham Webb who took his season tally to 53 league wickets with still 8 matches to go!

Next week sees Blackheath playing away to Cody who sit just behind the Heath in 3rd place - see you there!
