Saturday 1st XI v Alfold (Home) 12-06-2010

Blackheath - P Nash 109, C Parrott 37*, G Webb 7-28, D McDermott 3-57

Alfold - J Sandford 30, A Burke 29, D Burke 3-63

Blackheath gained an important win against a determined Alfold side. Blackheath lost the toss and were asked to bat, which didn't start well with Terry BROCKMAN being run out first ball of the match without facing. In walked Paul NASH who looked up for a big innings batting at number 3 due to Mike CHASE being unavailable. NASH played positively on a less than par Blackheath wicket due to the heavy roller breaking down at the beginning of the week. Other than a couple of tough chances on the boundary to ex Blackheath player Nigel Watson, NASH again showed why he is one of the best batsmen in Div 2 with a fantastic hundred ending with 109 off 137 balls. However, his hundred looked a mere impossibility when Blackheath had slumped to 68 for 6 off 21 overs. In came Colin PARROTT batting at number 8 who was called up from the 2's and his selection was justified with a gutsy 37no off 77 balls. NASH and PARROTT put on a partnership of 105 for the 7th wicket making all the difference for Blackheath giving them a decent total of 179 for 7 dec off 45 overs. NASH also had to tough out his innings by taking painkillers throughout for an ongoing ankle problem. David BURKE was the pick of the Alfold bowlers ending with 3 for 63 off 15 overs and also taking 3 catches.

Alfold came out to bat and played positively and were no doubt going to go for the win, which was refreshing to see. The HAYGARTH brothers started well at the top of the innings, but were both removed by Graham WEBB and Dallas MCDERMOTT in quick succession. David BURKE was playing well before the majestic WEBB snapped him up for 29. Wickets fell at regular intervals and Blackheath managed to stay on top throughout the Alfold innings. James SANDFORD batted well at number 7 top scoring for Alfold making 30 before becoming another of WEBB'S victims. WEBB showed what a freak with the ball he is with yet another mammoth haul finishing with 7 for 28 off 13 overs. MCDERMOTT ended with 3 for 57 off 12.1 overs and Ed ALLEN bowled well without luck slowing down Alfold's batsmen at a crucial stage of the game. Blackheath's fielding was also at its best with 8 catches being caught out of 9 and 2 stumpings to keeper BROCKMAN who also had 0 byes along with 2 catches.

Victory means Blackheath remain on top of the table!
