Result: Blackheath won by 15 runs

As the stats show, this was definitely skipper Rich Smith’s match, for which reason he modestly asked me to write the report on his behalf. Highlights included Rich’s six from the second ball of the innings ...

 ... handy contributions from all the top 5, including Jonty, until he chose the wrong one to leave  ...

... Wrigleys junior ...                  ... and senior ...

... and Ben Dallyn, whose running between the wickets proved just a bit too quick for one or two of his partners ...

... before a late middle order collapse left it to quicks Ed Allen and Ben Hodges – getting a rare opportunity for a bit of batting – to help us post a decent target.   Thereafter, it was all hard work for the bowlers on a belter of a pitch.  Ed contorted himself with the effort of beating the bat on probably 20 occasions ...

 ... whilst Rich charged up the hill at the other end, exhorting his team to ever greater efforts .  For most of the match all results were possible , until helped by sensational catches from Ben and Graham we finally wrapped up the Waverley innings with just an over to spare.

Having made top score with the bat and picked up 7 wickets as well, it was hard to fault the skipper’s performance, unless it was in his unaccountable failure to bowl a certain pie-chucker specialising in the one that goes straight on.
