Saturday 2nd XI v Milford 2nd XI (Away) 27-06-2009

Result: Blackheath won by 29 runs

Blackheath - A Mackie 86, F Martin-Dye 74 & 4-61, S Gummer 42

Milford 2nd XI - Richardson 52, Morris 33

The winning run continues as the 2nds knock up their 4th win in a row.

This was a bit too close for comfort though.

Having won the toss yet again, skipper Tom (text book) Harfleet decided to bat.A total of 262 for 3 off 40 overs looked like a safe place to declare. An excellent 86 from Alex Mackie opening for the first time and another fine 74 from Fred Martin-Dye, laid the foundations, then Sam Gummer hit a quick 42 not out followed by our very own BBC Tennis expert Harry Giles who hit 34 also not out.

After Tea the Heath set about rolling over the opposition and getting home early, only things didn't work out that way. In the 6th over Sam Gummer put a bit of extra pace on the ball which speared through straight on to Brian Haddon's knee and Kevin Hoare had to take up the gloves. After a long Hot spell in the field with wickets falling very slowly we found ourselves with 4 overs left, batsmen 10 and 11 scoring freely needing 29 to win and us desperately looking for the final wicket. Thankfully Sam Gummer then had their number 11 caught behind by Kevin Hoare, his 4th catch of the game.

Much relief and excitement all round. Fred Martin- Dye was the pick of the Bowlers taking 4 for 61 off 14 overs and there were good catches from Will Offer and Simon Mansell, but the Champagne moment was Sam Gummer's spectacular catch to remove Richardson on 52.
