Colts Winter Coaching

Although we understand that not everyone will be able to attend every winter coaching session, all colts in the U9 age group and above are encouraged to attend these sessions as often as they can.

This year our main winter coaching programme for the U13-U9 squads will once again be run by former Surrey and England player Monte Lynch at the Duke of Kent School on Sunday afternoons from 10 January 2010 (excluding half term dates) as follows:

U13 and U12 squads: at least 9 Sundays, generally from 2-4pm
U11 and U10 squads: at least 9 Sundays, generally from 4-6pm
U9 squad: at least 4 Sunday afternoons in March and April, times TBC.

The U15 squad will this year be training separately at Cranleigh School on at least 10 Sundays from 10 January 2010, from 3-4pm. These will mostly be intensive net sessions using bowling machines and, from time to time, video analysis. For several of these sessions the squad will be coached by the Cranleigh Director of Cricket, Stuart Welch, who will also be offering occasional one-to-one coaching sessions to squad members.

Blackheath CC is extremely fortunate to be able to offer to its colts section the services of outstanding professional coaches such as Monte and Stuart (see brief profiles below), as well as use of the excellent facilities at Duke of Kent and Cranleigh Schools. The sessions are being heavily subsidised by the club, and the cost to Blackheath colts will be just Ł25 for the full set of winter coaching sessions (Ł10 for the U9 age group) in addition to basic subscriptions.

	Monte Lynch is one of Surrey’s best known cricketers of the past few decades, also playing several ODIs for England. He is currently Cricket Consultant at the Royal Grammar School in Guildford, as well as running MAL Skills, a rapidly growing cricket coaching organisation (www.malskills.co.uk).
	Stuart Welch is one of only a handful of ICC Europe coaches in the UK. He was for 12 years the Assistant Head Coach at Lords for the MCC, and is currently Director of Cricket at Cranleigh School.
