Nets Project

Work started on the new nets project in the snow. The old nets have been dismantled and the trees have been cleared to make space for three new nets that will run 90 degrees from the original location.

The intrepid working party will be meeting on Sunday mornings at 10am to prepare the ground before the season starts - additional volunteers will always be welcome. Last week work started on levelling the ground:

Colts Winter Nets

Colts winter nets are held on Sunday afternoons at Duke of Kent School near Peaslake, between 2.30pm and 5.30pm. For further details and timings for the different squads, contact Nick Harrison on 01483 898650.

Blackheath 1st XI Champions

With so many cancellations and abandonments it's been a long time coming, but finally Blackheath 1st XI are champions of I'Anson League Division 4. Our winning draw against Kingsley last Saturday (1st September) left our nearest challengers Bramley ten points behind with only one match to play. Technically they could still draw level next weekend, but we would win on "count back".

A deputation from the league will present the trophy at Blackheath prior to our final game next Saturday 8th September, at home to Witley. Apparently Nelson Mandela has a prior engagement, but no doubt the presentation will still be a moment to savour. Let's hope we can win the game too, and end the season with a flourish!

One thing's for certain, the regulars from both the 1st and 2nd XIs are planning an evening out on Saturday to celebrate a good season for both teams. Details of this are sketchy at the moment (and likely to get sketchier as the evening progresses), but we'll start at the club after the game, probably around 6pm. Everybody's welcome so come along...and bring your best drinking trousers. Regards, Graham Webb.
